There is a big space at the centre of Tirane, much more than a square though that’s what it’s callled. Skanderbej Square. That’s him on the horse. It was a building site when I was here in July and in October, it’s almost finished now. None of these photographs are very good but maybe together, and with the song below them, they convey some sense of just what a cracking place to be it is.

Having volunteered in Albania last year hesr’s one or two points for the traveller; Cost of liviing in the city of Tirana is lower but from the Airport outside go to the small bus on the left much cheaper than the taxi, Hotels charge in euro and are very expensive, check out Hostels near the “Block” area! Get the cheap bus out of the city and head west/better south west coast such as Himara or Sandra, better still fly into Corfu and cross on the ferry save you the 7 hour bus journey from Tirana! Any town/city along the coast is great and the people are lovely! Watch out swiming as the sea is suddenly very deep! This is a great country so go before its ruined by stupid high rise buildings and the tatty tourist look and the comerical ruination brought by the EU as in what were one time lovely courtries! fingers crossed the same will not happen to lovely Albania! Enjoy your trip!
